American Soldier

American Soldier

A. The most powerful picture out of all of the pictures was probably picture was the picture of him praying next to his things. I think this is the most powerful picture because it shows that Ian has had his first REAL struggle, and wanting it be over.

B. The images tell a story about how this 'kid,' Ian, wanted to be in the army. He shows devotion, and strength. As soon as things start getting hard, he starts to show his emotion, and stress. Which in reality, we all do too.

C. The captions go more into depth than what really meets the eye. We may see a guy sitting on a chair with his head in his arms, but we don't know the back story. He could be asleep, he could be crying, he could be angry. Thats where the captions come into play.

D. Ian fisher, 18, enlisted to be in the army. He gets a call, and gets accepted to get in the army. Soon after he had a party with friends, family, and his girlfriend. He gets sent off with little stress and little worry. He gets his physical exam to see if he qualifies. He does qualify and goes straight to training. After weeks of training, things at home and the army start getting stressful. There is so much on his plate with balancing his social life, and his army duties, that it is breaking him down. He gets sent of to Iraq, and he witnesses the troubles of other countries. He comes back realizing the problems with everyone, and everything. He gets home and him and his best friend get matching tattoos showing there friendship. Later on Ian and his new girlfriend get married in a quiet courthouse.

e. They are usually written in 3rd person.

F.
 1. About 4 sentences each.
 2. The first sentence provides the obvious evidence in the picture.
 3. They provide background information that is not easily assumed
 4. The reason behind why he did something.
 5. Yes a few do.
 6. I would say they all do if you count the bolded opening sentence. But a 5th sentence, most do not.

G. I believe that with just pictures and captions, you can tell a story. The pictures show the emotion behind whats going on, and the caption explains what exactly is going on.

H. You should still create a story just in case people don't understand the point of the story. If i had not read the articles with the pictures, the pictures wouldn't have made all that sense to me.
